184 eligible donors successfully completed the blood donation process of Central Philippines State Universityโs (CPSU) recent bloodletting program with 87 (Type O), (39 Type B), (50 Type A), and (9 Type AB) blood bag outputs.
A total of 227 the students and university stakeholders joined as blood donors having 43 identified as deferred donors due to common ineligibility grounds like hypertension, and low hemoglobin count.
Organized by the CPSU Medical-Dental Health Unit (MDHU), in partnership with the National Service Training Program (NSTP) and the Philippine Red Cross, the event catered to the donors in the Mt. Ballo Hall venue on March 27, 2025.
The primary objective of the bloodletting activity is to advocate and encourage the values of volunteerism and generosity, and to help secure medical resources availability, particularly of transfusion-ready blood.
The commendable number of volunteer donors, despite the call-for-donations only being announced on the night of March 26, showcased a strong sense of community engagement, shared commitment for a cause, and the common upholding of social responsibility towards supporting the health and welfare of others.
The CPSU MDHU under the leadership of University Nurse, Ms. Kristine C. Duran, with the cooperation of the NSTP headed by Director, Dr. Salvador Castor Ph.D, spearheaded the activity with the expertise of Ph Red Cross Negros Occidental medical and allied health professional volunteers, headed by Bacolod City Chapter Administrator, Ms. Rita Benita P. Mirasol.
The team foresees the 184-blood bag output to go a long way in helping those in need of life-saving blood transfusions and in inspiring more stakeholders to participate in future bloodletting endeavors.
CPSU-organized bloodlettings have collectively become a cornerstone of the university commitment to instilling the significance of valuing the community and common well-being to Cenphilians.
