  • Landbank now opens ATM outlet at CPSU-Main, bringing banking convenience to the community

Aligned with CPSU’s incessant commitment to assist its rural stakeholders and serve the community, especially in terms of their financial accessibility, the long-hoped-for goal of opening an on-campus ATM has finally been realized. In partnership with the Landbank of the Philippines, an Automated Teller Machine (ATM), as an electronic banking outlet, was installed at Central Philippines State University-Main Campus which was inaugurated last August 1, 2024. This move is expected to sustainably meet today’s demand for available banking facilities as a significant part of people’s everyday lives for their economic activities. With the availability of the machine, located at the left wing of the University Administration Building, students, personnel, farmers, and the people within the nearby communities can now perform with ease basic banking activities and financial transactions like cash withdrawals, money transfers, balance inquiries, and accounts checking, among others. Convenient banking access Being situated 19 km from Kabankalan City, and 17 km from the town of Mabinay, Negros Oriental, the ATM enhances the overall campus experience by addressing the banking needs of its community. It now affords them the convenience of accessing banking services directly on campus. Primarily, it saved everyone the hassle and hazards of a 30–50-minute ride in going to the city as they no longer have to go out of the campus to do online bank transactions. Promotion of peace and order It likewise promotes peace and order as it reduces the need for trips to off-campus locations since stakeholders and clients can access cash safely within the campus. Hence, they are less likely to carry large amounts of cash reducing the risk of theft or loss. In cases of emergency, they can quickly access funds with the ATM readily available. And with the security cameras strategically placed within the ATM’s location, it deters criminal activity and contributes to the overall campus safety. Strengthening collaboration among community sectors More importantly, the machine serves as a conduit for enhancing collaboration among various University sectors – the farmer associations, the barangay local unit, and the safety officers of the University - as everyone pledged support and cooperation to ensure the machine’s security. Dr. Aladino Moraca, CPSU president, stated that this move not only helps the financial sustainability through convenient access, but more importantly it strengthens the sense of community within the University as different sectors gathered together to voice their commitment to maintaining safe and accessible financial resource for all. “By having this essential service on-site, the University community can work together more effectively to safeguard the ATM, creating a safer and more secure environment and online transaction for everyone,” Dr. Moraca said. Economic boost for rural stakeholders This achievement is viewed as a vital boost to the economy of the University personnel, local farmers and the entire community as it saves them time and travel costs, allowing them to work efficiently and with greater focus, ultimately leading to improved productivity and better work results.
