  • CPSU personnel celebrates Health and Wellness Day 2023

December 14, 2023 - Central Philippines State University dedicated its whole day event to celebrate and foster health and wellness among its personnel at Mt. Ballo Hall, CPSU-Main Campus.

The said event started with a morning Zumba joined by the CPSU personnel and students. The second part of the program commenced with a moment of reflection through a heartfelt prayer and an opening remark given by Ma’am Nelly Cabual, Board Secretary, highlighting the importance of taking good care of one’s health.

Gracing the event was the first speaker, Doc. Milavi J. Lopez, the University resident doctor, who delivered an insightful message about the nuances between the positive and negative impacts of carbohydrates to a person’s health in her message, “Curse of Rice and Sugar”.

“You have to teach yourself or your brain to always eat rice and sweets in moderation. You have to be mindful of what you eat because it is you who can control your own body. Remember, Illiterates aren’t those who cannot read and write; they are those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn. So, it is all up to us,” Dr. Lopez said.

The afternoon’s event focused on equipping attendees with effective stress management techniques, offering each one with enjoyable and interactive sessions. Through the fun and engaging activities prepared by the hosts, the personnel immersed themselves in strategies to better manage stress.

Sir Jirec Bacongco, the University Psychometrician and Guidance counselor, leading the afternoon’s session, talked about stress management in the workplace, emphasizing the value of knowing one’s true self in order to control their emotions and reactions to stress.

“The loss of focus and connections result in no concentration. The lack of concentration on how to solve the problems, and how to combat crisis will result to fear, and because of that fear of what will happen next, you’ll get intimidated by what approach you’ll use to manage your own problems. But if you focus on the positive side, looking at that crisis you’ll be able to enjoy, and that enjoyment will be relaxing to yourself. If you are relaxed, you will be able to help others also that will result to satisfaction in your life and towards others, and this will lead to self-motivation,” Sir Jirec said.

As the echoes of the health and wellness day celebration remained in each participants’ hearts, its impact also left a lasting benefit in the thriving community invested in both the learning and personal growth of the personnel.

The successful event was organized by the CPSU Medical-Dental Health Unit (MDHU) headed by Nurse Kristine Duran, in partnership with the Human Resource Management Office (HRMO) headed by Dr. Freia Vargas, and the Gender and Development (GAD) Office with Director Shirley Calugcugan.
