  • CPSU-COTED Ball 2023: A Night of Grace and Glam

February 23, 2023 - College of Teacher Education (COTED) held its glamorous COTED Night 2023 at the Clemente Sports Complex, CPSU Main Campus. The event aims to foster the camaraderie and social skills of the students which is relevant for future educators, as well as modesty and fashion.

The venue sparkled as the 700 first-fourth year Teacher Education students and personnel headed by Dr. Merfe Cayot – Hucalinas, COTED dean, walked through the red carpet for the processional in their elegant gowns and suits. These were students from the Bachelor of Early Childhood Education (BECED), Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), Bachelor of Physical education (BPED), and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) majors in English, Filipino, Math, and Science.

Part of the event was the search for “Most Likely to Succeed, Class Clown, and Most Popular Male and Female,” which were done through online voting via Facebook. Garnering the highest vote for the “Most Likely to Succeed” was Ms. Christine Joy Tubio, BSED-English 3. Also snatching the title as “Class Clown” was Sweet Dawn Caldo, while Angelo Esparas of BSED Math 4 was crowned the “Most Popular Male” and “Glaiza Mae Tambora” as the Most Popular Female. The winners received a sash and a certificate. The program also highlighted the giving of certificates of recognition for the student leaders from the class mayors of all majors in all levels, the club officers, and the dynamic EDSOC officers.

One of the most awaited part was the announcement of winners in the film showing contest. The films were originally written, directed, and acted by COTED students divided according to their majors. The crowd cheered as the “Carolina” of BPED was awarded First Place for the Best Film, with minor awards as Best in Script Writing, Best in Film Editing, Best in Musical Score, and Best in Cinematography.

Meanwhile, the “Riverend” of the BSED Filipino garnered the Second Place for the Best Film with the minor awards Best in Visual Effect and Best in Costume Design. Finally, the Third Place was awarded to “Talimuwang” of BSED major in Science. “Carolina” also came out to have all the production winners including, Jessever Mayang for the Best Director, Carl Kuer Vallagomessa for the Best Supporting Actor, Alleah Lumawag for the Best Supporting Actress, Rhaffy Aral for the Best Actor, and Jillian Jane Villaflor for the Best Actress award. The “Ellie” of the BSED-English won the Best Poster award. The winners were awarded with trophies and certificates as a token of recognition and appreciation for their active contribution to the success of the activity.

Of course, students who stood out in their glamorous outfits were awarded. Joie Grace Damucos won the “Best Dress” award, while Karl Vallagoma for the “Best Suit.” Meanwhile, Charmain Muyco and Leandro Ortillano wore the Most Fashionable gown and suit.

Also receiving the recognition as most beautiful and handsome students where Glevee Duales who was named “The Belle of the Night,” and Ervin Calambro as “The Beau of the Night.” The most fascinating award goes to Shayne Louise Estaniel and Renz Aloba as the Glamour of Also, Michie Ayumi Fajardo and Jay Daniel Bañas were pinned as the “Stars of the Night.” Richard Estrada and Dailyn Delosinas were tagged as the nights’ “Hopeless Romantic.” The crowd also went romantic mode as Frenzy June Sumagaysay and Jun Rey Amar garnered the spotlight for the “Best Couple of the Night.”

And to complete the night’s list of best faces, each major was tasked to select one male and female who wore the grandest and most elegant dress and character among them to be their representative and be one of the nominees for the COTED Night King and Queen. This offers a fair selection of winners for the nominees who were called to ramp on stage and showcase their best personality. And among the selected beauties, Daniela Arroz was pronounced as the fairest among them, paired by the ravishing gentleness of Lezter Oral, both from BSED major in English. Everyone cheered and applauded with glee for the newly hailed COTED Night King and Queen.

Ms. Anamae Catacutan, EDSOC Co-Adviser delivered her closing remarks which added to the excitement of the students. The night went loud as the students took the dance floor during the disco.

It was indeed a night of grace and glamour to see the students make so much effort to be in their best looks and portray themselves with modesty as aspiring pillars of knowledge, skills, and values. The day ended with the warmest greeting of “good evening” from the Lady and Master of Ceremony, Diana Jane Gelecame, EDSOC President and Angelo Esparas, EDSOC Treasurer.

The program was initiated by the active Education Society (EDSOC) Officers, supervised by their supportive adviser Sir Drandon Yusalan, COTED faculty.
