“Globally Responsive Educators: Key to Transformative and Innovative Education.”

Central Philippines State University (CPSU), College of Teacher Education (COTED) successfully celebrated the 5th Pinning, Candle Lighting and Tribute to Parents Ceremony, on December 9, 2022 at Zaycoland Hotel and Resort, Kabankalan City. This year’s theme emphasized the vision of producing effective educators who are globally sensitive, equipped to be able to innovatively transform knowledge into learning.

The event aimed to give honor to the graduating education students as they embarked in the final phase of their chosen profession. A total of one hundred seventy (170) aspiring educators were officially pinned by their respective parents as a symbol of their transition and pledge for professionalism as student teachers. Specifically, there were eight (8) students who attended from Bachelor Early Childhood Education (BECED), 26 students from Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED), 30 students from Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSED) major in English, 33 students from BSED major in Filipino, 23 students from BSED major in Science, 21 students from BSED major in Mathematics, and 29 students from Bachelor in Physical Education (BPED).

The COTED faculty and staff were also present headed by Dr. Merfe Cayot-Hucalinas, COTED dean and adviser of BSED- Filipino 4. As the students light up their candle, this emblemized their journey towards the entrance of mentoring minds and nurturing values and skills as they educate the future of the nation. The students also prepared special letters and tokens for their parents to show appreciation for their unconditional support and guidance.

“…Write your own story of teaching and couple it with passion and determination…go forth, live out your passion, teach and make a difference.” An excerpt from the inspirational speech of the guest speaker, Melona Q. Guitche, Ph.D., dean of the College of Education, La Consolacion College-Bacolod, that highlighted the calling of being an educator to be compassionate as pillars of knowledge and skills. She also channeled her delight to witness the aspiring educators achieve a new milestone and to use her voice to motivate them to continue in spite various obstacles they may face along the way.

The program was facilitated by the Graduating Class 2023 Officers, led by Anthony M. Garlet, BSED-English 4, under the supervision of their adviser Miss Gene Rose Bocol.
